5 Delicious Vegan-Friendly Restaurants in Margate
Looking for vegan restaurants in Margate? This list curates some of my top picks.
Having been to Margate on multiple occasions as a vegetarian who eats mostly plant-based food, I’ve been able to try out quite a few of the town’s vegan-friendly delights. I’ve also got some trusted recommendations I’m still yet to try!
While Margate doesn’t offer any fully vegan sit-down restaurants, there’s some beautiful green shoots of a plant-based scene going on if you look a little closely. Most restaurants will offer some kind of vegan-friendly dish, however the restaurants below pay particular attention to their plant based customer base…
With a variety of options from brunches to late night eats, this guide covers a range of meals – from hearty breakfasts to late night munchies.
Quick List:
- Beach Buoys – vegan banana blossom ‘fish’ and chips, for the classic seaside experience in plant-based glory
- Cliff’s Cafe – vegan breakfast, plant based sausage bap, toasts, in the Cliftonville area of Margate
- Lafayette’s – centrally located all day restaurant with lots of plant based options, from breakfasts and bowls to pizza and burgers. My top pick!
- Casa – all their pizzas can be made with vegan cheese for no extra cost, plus they have a special Vegano pizza with delicious veggies on top
- Souvlaki – their vegan chicken souvlaki is a 10/10 recommend for some late evening munching (or a great lunch option!)
Beach Buoys
If there’s one thing that’s essential when it comes to seaside culture, classic seafront fish and chips are absolutely it. Gets a bit tougher when you don’t eat fish, though.
That’s where Beach Buoys comes in.
With three vegans and a veggie in our group of six, this spot satisfied everyone. Alongside their traditional fish and chips, there’s also a banana blossom ‘fish’ option that I loved. The flaky texture did a decent job of replicating fish, especially with the seaweed seasoning giving it that ‘fishy’ taste – oh, and the batter? Impeccable. Also, if you’re not feeling the fake fish, there’s also a battered vegan sausage option on offer too.
The prices are perhaps a little higher than in a basic takeaway joint, but the portion sizes are mega. In fact, I’d recommend getting a portion of fish per person, and a chips to share!

Cliff’s Cafe
You’ll need to head up into the Cliftonville area of Margate for this one, but it’s worth it for some creative breakfast dishes with a twist. We had this recommended by some trusted vegan friends, and although we couldn’t make it there ourselves, their reccos are always spot on!
The breakfast menu has a vegan version of most dishes, including a big breakfast of sausages, re-fried smoky baked beans, mushrooms, tomato and spinach served up with organic sourdough. For lighter bites, there’s a vegan sausage sarnie or mushrooms on toast. The vegan version of the loaded hash browns is a kicking mix of homemade kimchi, tamari mushrooms, sriracha and homemade salsa verde.

Lafayettes
We popped in here for brunch at the end of our weekend trip. Like the others on this list, Lafayette’s isn’t a fully vegan or vegetarian menu. However, basically the entire breakfast menu can be made plant-based, making it a great choice for an affordable plant-based weekend brunch in Margate.
Dishes to choose from include a plant based full English breakfast, a posh vegan sausage roll and some delicious ‘on toast’ options. I tried the scrambled tofu on toast with roast tomato chutney and it was the perfect thing to get me going in the morning. I was offered the ‘make it cheezy’ upgrade, which is an offer I can never refuse – and the vegan feta was the ideal addition.
During the day, Lafayette’s also serve a heavily plant-based main menu, including vegan pizza options, nourishing bowls and burgers.

Casa
If you’re in the mood for some pizza, Casa is where its at. With an extensive range, you can pick any pizza and switch to vegan cheese for no extra cost. Their Vegana pizza is a plant based highlight, featuring a friarielli cream base, topped with mushrooms, artichokes, olives and garlic extra virgin olive oil. There’s also a vegan n’duja that can be added as an extra, plus loads of veggies.

The Souvlaki
A surprisingly vegan-friendly late night eatery!
I discovered this spot on my most recent weekend trip to Margate, as it was just a couple of steps away from our accommodation! By the time our whole group arrived, it was pretty late, and we’d been in the pub for a fair few hours. The fancier restaurants were all closing their doors, so we were left with slim pickings for where to grab some late night dinner.
Part of a national chain of ten restaurants, The Souvlaki came to our rescue with their vegan gyros wrap, featuring a flavoursome meat substitute to replicate the shaved consistency of a non-veggie gyros. (If you’re not into meat substitutes, they also offer a falafel wrap option.) It was EXACTLY what I needed and as someone who adores Greek food, finding a version of a souvlaki I can eat that isn’t falafel or just veggies was amazing.
Oh, and it’s open until 10.30-11pm every day – the perfect late night drinks companion!
