A Foodie Guide To Rome: Where To Eat Pizza, Pasta and Gelato
When I found out I was going to Rome last December, my first thought? GIMME ALL THE FOOD. Pasta, pizza and ice cream are three of my favourite things. And coincidentally, they’re three things that Italy has a preeeetty good rep for.
If you’re thinking about taking a trip to Rome this summer, then food might well be top of your agenda too. So here are some foodie finds that you shouldn’t miss – along with some suggestions on where to enjoy them…

1. Pasta
So obvious, yet so important – a great first port of call for any foodie guide to Rome. If you’re in the ‘Eternal City’ and you don’t eat pasta, you’re truly missing out. Because the Italians take their pasta very, very seriously.

We had no lunch plans on our first day in Rome, other than a wander to see what we stumbled upon. We stumbled upon this place, and weren’t disappointed.

Trattoria Luzzi
When visiting the Colosseum, we were warned to stay away from the restaurants that had waiters trying to pluck you in off the streets. Instead, we did our own research – and this busy, buzzing joint is affordable and authentic, with some delicious pasta dishes. Maybe avoid the mega-cheap house wine though…

Okay – we didn’t get to check this one out ourselves, but when it comes to restaurant recommendations, Katy‘s always a reliable source of delight!

Rome’s Top Pizza Restaurants
Pizzería Pasquino
Suprisingly (for me), over our weekend in Rome, I actually only had pizza once. I KNOW, what’s happened to me, right? I’m pretty glad it was at this tasty spot though!

Selling pizza by the slice, with a fascinating range of toppings – including some pretty experimental ideas from the man they call the ‘Michelangelo of pizza making’, Gabrielle Bonci.

Sforno
If you’re keen to try some traditional Neapolitan pizza, Sforno is the place to go. The dough features a thick crust, slightly charred, with all the toppings concentrated to the centre. For fans of amazing pizza bases.

3. Gelato
Where To Find The Best Gelato in Rome
On my trip to Rome, I’m happy to admit I ate gelato every day. Hell, one day I had the stuff twice. Gelato is the Italian word for ‘ice cream’ – but actually, Italian gelato is made with more milk rather than cream, and churned at a much slower rate than your average Mr. Whippy.
Nevi di Latte
A true cut above the rest – plenty of locals will happily sing the praises that this right here is Rome’s very best gelato.

Great for: The experimental flavour combinations and watching the fresh ingredients being turned into gelato before your very eyes.

The food you’ve linked looks outstanding! I visited rome in march with a big group, but it was hard to visit particular places because you had to go with what the group wanted. I think i will return in future on my own or with my boyfriend and visit some of these that you’ve linked. Thanks!

Ah, this made me so hungry and made me miss Rome and Italy! My favourite meal there was actually in the Roman Ghetto at a restaurant called Il Giardino Romano. It was amazing!
